Continuing our September series of "Conscious Discipline 101," this week's focus is on some of the principles that make up CD. Two of which connect to this week's commitment.
First, seeing all behavior as communication, and second, teaching missing skills instead of punishing. With that in mind, this week's Conscious Commitment is: "I am willing to see misbehavior a sign of missing skills, and instead of punishing I will work to teach that child a new skill."

Continuing our September series of "Conscious Discipline 101," this week's focus is on the Brain State Model. 🧠 With that in mind, this week's Conscious Commitment is: "I am willing to use what I know about the brain state model to change the way I respond to upset this week."
Here's how:
1. Remain in an executive state myself.
2. Identify the child's internal state.
3. Assist the child in achieving an executive state for optimal learning.
4. Address the behavior by teaching a new skill.
⭐️ Willing to commit? Post “ImWillingRU” in the comments.
More information on these four steps on pages 56-58 of our Building Resilient Classrooms book, and stay tuned this week for more information about the Brain State Model and how to apply in your school or home. As always, we wish you well! #iHeartCD #consciouscommitment #CD101 #brainstatemodel

Continuing our September series of "Conscious Discipline 101," this week's focus is on the School Family.
This week's Conscious Commitment is: "The brain is a social organ that develops through relationships. With that in mind, I am willing to spend at least five minutes a day building & strengthening relationships within my school family." Are you a parent? This commitment can apply to your home family as well! Learn more about the "why" behind the School Family by clicking the button on the left. Willing to commit? Continuing our September series of "Conscious Discipline 101," this week's focus is on breathing: why we do it and how we do it. With that in mind, our Conscious Commitment is: "I am willing to focus on my breathing this week.
If I catch myself breathing shallow, I will be a S.T.A.R. and take three deep, belly breaths to turn off the stress response and reconnect to the present moment."
